ADULT: Wingspan 38-44mm. The forewings are sporadically covered with various sized crescent shaped markings. The hindwings of this moth are white. LARVA: A soft pale green and covered with many long white or yellowish hairs giving a feathery appearance. It feeds on a variety of trees including Beech, Hazel, Oak, Birch and Willow. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and sugar but usually in singles or small numbers. HABITAT: Mainly woodland, heathland and gardens. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. June to August. STATUS: Resident and more common in the south. |
